Discussions after the reading.

Beatrix Gates

I decided to go to Acadia once a week in May and June to let it happen on the way to some poems. I wanted to go once hiking was possible and before my usual teaching commitment in the Goddard MFA out west in early July. I chose to go to a few places I knew, and some I had never been to before. I kept the run regular, shared or solo, and took pictures to fix the days in my body.
I didn’t know then that I would need to write the piece, “For Orlando: Make Beautiful in Maine,” or that when I went hiking with a Maine childhood friend in the murderous week of Orlando,  it would be the one day I could breathe fully and walk with all pores open, both to the numbness of sorrow and the relief of breath.

and then there’s Daksha. She has been working on her Cobble it Together walkway at the entrance to the Sanctuary. we shall all have the gift of this beauty each time we enter. She is so multi-talented and has given freely of her time to keep the place running smoothly and to make it more beautiful. many thanks to her daughters who have assisting in creating this unique path.
